The Charges Against Amitabh Bachchan; The Politician:

Amitabh Bachchan is a one of the greatest cine idol of this country and there can’t be two views on this. The whole country had emotionally stood by him when he met an accident while shooting for the film “Coolie”. Country also showed his sympathies when he fell apart with the Gandhi family. But the recent attempt of Amitabh to move away from the selected group of great creative persons like Dilip Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar etc. to one who seems to exploit his public support for the political benefit of Samajwadi Party by becoming the brand ambassador for the party, will draw criticism which other wise would have been avoided by him. Many may not like this and I hope the charges may not be true but I wish to put up the following charges against him.

1.Amitabh is encashing the public support to him as a great actor for the political benefit of a regime who is undemocratic, parochial, casteist, corrupt and facilitator of criminality in the state. He should have kept away from politics.

2.Amitabh is opportunist. The deal between him and the Samajwadi party seems to be based on quid pro quo. It seems that the financial or otherwise help given to Amitabh by the leaders of Samajwadi party at the time of his crisis when his bunglow “Ashirwad” was tipped for auction is being reciprocated by him by giving support to the party. But he fails to understand that personal relations should have been kept only at personal level. The public support for an actor in a country like India should not have been misused for the political support of a party with many ills. Amitabh is doing this. And in this quid pro quo his wife has become Member of Parliament and his whole family has got the highest cultural award from the UP government. Many may say that the award to his son was just not right choice.

3.Some may say that the closeness of Amitabh with Samajwadi Party which is politically powerful as compared to Congress is an attempt of his to give a befitting reply to Sonia Gandhi. If that is the thinking of Amitabh then he has only lowered his image. In fact the two deal with different worlds. One politics and the other cinema. His popularity and the status would have always remained intact even if Congress would have done any witch hunting. On the contrary by coming in the trap of a political dealer who uses all types of language for the Gandhi family(which even BJP has never used) Amitabh has made himself prone to criticism of the same type which these political personalities attract . Sonia on the other hand has been able to maintain her dignity in the whole controversy.

4.Amitabh is doing great injustice to his state by promoting a product(political party) which person of his status should have never. It is a disservice to his motherland by befooling gullible public. The product of Amitabh is based on failure of law and order, belief in creating social friction, promotion of crude casteism where only few are preferred, criminalization of society so much so that the ordinary man has gone to the fringe in every walks of life, promotion of only few business families and groups in most unfair and non transparent way, promoting only the party workers in the bureaucracy so much so that all right thinking government servants have been marginalized and only absolutely corrupt are being favoured, criminalization of students, loot of public money by few resulting in failure of government schemes, total standstill of bureaucratic system, creating frictions between the instrumentalities of state. These are only some observations. Detail in each sector will produce several horrible films.

5.One may or may not agree with my views but one thing is for sure that Amitabh‘s image would have been at a high pedestal if he had confined himself to films or social activities. By entering in political field directly or indirectly he has exposed himself to a close public scrutiny. History will prove this will be the biggest strategic mistake of Amitabh .

Biography!!!!

An unauthorised biography of Amitabh Bachchan was released in the British capital by the English author who described the Bollywood superstar as the "Uber-God" of Indian cinema.
Jessica Hines also read excerpts from her 287-page book titled "Looking for the Big B" last night to a packed gathering at 'Sitaaray', an Indian restaurant quite aptly adorned with posters and photographs of Bollywood cine stars.
The book takes a fascinating peek at the Mumbai film industry and also tells the story of a very unlikely friendship between Jessica and the 'Superstar of the Millennium'.
"He is India's most legendary film star - a cross between Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino, Elvis, and with more than a hint of John Travolta," Jessica wrote in the book, her maiden venture.
"In a country like India where film stars are treated as Gods, Amitabh Bachchan is the Uber-God, the Big B."

Bachchan sent a congratulatory message to the author on the occasion.

INDIA POISED- Our time is now.....

Its the best video i have ever seen. In this video, Amitabh Bachchan talks about the India and its progress after independence. He also tells that there are two India( india means the people of india) one who lives with the same ideology as it was before independence but the second india has moved ahead and has developed their own ideas and ideologies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adBMxWzXyUc&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fblogs%2Esun%2Ecom%2Farungupta%2Fentry%2Findia%5Fpoised%5Fby%5Famitabh%5Fbachchan

to be or not to be....

To Be or Not To Be looks at the life and the craft – which are inevitably inseparable-of Amitabh Bachchan who has been at the forefront of Indian cinema for well over three decades and a roster of nearly 100 films. Several epithets have been bestowed upon him. The media and he mass audience anointed him with the title of a Superstar, while a BBC poll established him as the Star of the Millennium, the public vote placing him ahead of every other charismatic and thespian icon of the globe, past or present.

The spectacle of an actor’s journey through the troughs and peaks of time and trends is a thousand times richer than the most beguiling inventions of our imagination. Bachchan’s life and career reaffirm that point. A lavishly illustrated, comprehensive study of the actor’s trajectory, subtextually this volume reflects the course that film culture has taken from the 1970s right to this day.

In addition to a critical analysis and an in-depth interview, the endeavour is underscored with personalized, heartfelt accounts written by the actor’s immediate family, providing the reader with a rare glimpse into a world that has been beset with its myriad joys and anxieties –perhaps more acutely than any other household which has been in the public glare relentlessly.

Important features of the book include the actor photographed in various moods and candid moments. For the cineaste the filmography, with brief descriptions and credits, provides a ready Bachchan-reckoner. The text as well as film stills and several family keepsake memories traced back to well-preserved albums, add enormously to the authenticity and reference value of this entertainment-packed book.

Tall and slender, Amitabh Bachchan’s personality was different in the realm of Hindi cinema habituated to conventional Adonis heroes. The reality he lived as a child within the sedentary surroundings of Allahabad was enough to make one dream: he is the son of a widely respected poet, scholar and writer. As circumstances and the unwavering pursuit of a film career proved, the elder of the two sons of the poet excelled in the creative field of film acting. Acting became his passion and his performances were astoundingly original.

From his dram-like childhood to the struggle to find a foothold in Bombay show business, from his first disappointments and successes to his ascent as a mega-star, from his induction into politics to his disenchantment with the political process, from his self-imposed sabbatical to the foray into the corporate arena, and finally to his glorious return in both cinema and television, on his own terms, are just some of the chapters in the life of the seasoned actor.

Amitabh Bachchan, who turned 60 on Octer 11, 2002, is a reclusive, media-shy personality although he has acted in scores of blockbuster. Several films are currently in various stages of production. Winner of two National Film Awards, countless other acting trophies including those honouring him for Lifetime Achievement and as the Star of the Millennium, he has been awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India

who is d better gabbar. Amitabh Bachchan or Amjad Khan.

Amitabh Bachchan is shown arriving at parliament in this July 24, 2006 file photo.. Photo Credit: REUTERS/Kamal Kishore NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan will reverse roles to play a bloodthirsty bandit in the remake of one of the industry's greatest classics in which he originally played a lovable hero.
Bachchan, 64, said in recent interviews that even the first time round, he wanted to play Gabbar Singh, the tobacco-chewing, foul-mouthed villain of "Sholay".But he was cast as one of two reformed crooks who save a village from the bandit in the 1975 cult film.Newcomer Amjad Khan bagged Gabbar's role and became a Bollywood legend for his portrayal of what became Indian cinema's best-known villain.
The remake is called "Ram Gopal Varma ke Sholay" or Ram Gopal Varma's Sholay to make it clear that the film is his interpretation of the classic."It's a distinctive 'Sholay', set in a different time-zone," Varma, a top Bollywood director known for making unconventional movies, told Reuters.Varma's "Sholay" is not set in the treacherous ravines of India's northern badlands as in the original version but in the country's commercial and entertainment hub of Mumbai.
Neither does his Gabbar Singh command a ragtag gang of thieves but heads a well-organised crime syndicate."I am the biggest fan of 'Sholay' and Gabbar," said Varma, who has watched India's best "curry western" 27 times. "Over the years the legend of Gabbar has grown immensely.
"Varma says the choice of Bachchan to play Gabbar Singh was natural keeping in mind the complexities of the role. The lead pair is played by Ajay Devgan and newcomer Mohit Ahlawat.Filming of the remake is underway in studios in Mumbai and it is slated to open in May.
"We needed someone important to play Amjad Khan's role and who better than Bachchan himself," said the maverick director.Varma's villain, looking markedly older than the original Gabbar, wields a scorpion-headed stick -- instead of the leather belt that the bandit in the original version lashed around -- and has a prominent scar across his nose."He looks menacing and evil.
It gives him an effective and authoritative look," said Varma, who has got Bachchan to wear a blue lens in one eye and green in the other.Varma said when he offered the role to Bachchan, who has acted in over 150 films portraying the rebel and the honest police officer, the star laughed it off as a joke."He accepted it once I narrated to him my vision of Sholay.
Seeing Bachchan play Gabbar, Amjad Khan will be eclipsed from people's memories," Varma said.

Main Amitabh Bachchan bol raha hun

In a quick reaction to yesterday's report, which mentions Hrithik Roshan as the highest tax payer from the entertainment industry followed by SRK and others, Big B has clarified that the media overlooked him and he has paid more taxes than Hrithik. For the last financial year he has paid 15.59 Crores, which is 49 lakh rupees more that Hrithik's 15.1 Crores. He further takes pride in stating that Bachchan family is the highest tax paying family in India if accounted for big B himself with Abhishek and his bahu Aishwarya.Abhishek Bachchan has paid 4.75 Crores and Aishwarya 5 Crores. So all in all this year the Bachchan family has paid a whopping 25.3 Crores in tax, which certainly does make them the highest tax paying family.

Amitabh Bachchan in Mira Nair's film.

Mira Nair’s film Namesake will soon be releasing, but many from bollywood have already attended the premiere. The who’s who of bollywood was present at the event and it seems like everyone loved the film. Tabu and Irfan Khan are a part of the film. However even before the release of Namesake, it seems like Mira is all geared up for her next film already. In fact Mira has already finalized the cast of her next film Shantaram. One of the icons in bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan will be a part of the film and along with him, Hollywood star Johnny Depp will also be in the film. Mira is ecstatic that she has been able to cast two extremely talented actors both from bollywood as well as Hollywood.

Mira is very happy with her casting coup and says “I will be the first director to get Bachchan to do a Hollywood film. Imagine Bachchan and Depp in the same frame it’s enough to blow anybody’s mind.” This will be Amitabh’s first international film in Hollywood and hence no doubt he wants to be portrayed well. Amitabh will be playing an Indian underworld don, but one with certain kind of morals. The film is based on Gregory David Roberts autobiographical novel of the same name, it is based on an Australian robber and drug addict who escapes from prison and reinvents himself by starting a medical clinic in the slums of Bombay.

The film will be one of Nair’s biggest projects and the approximate budget for the film is said to be around $ 100 million.Johnny Depp will play the role of the foreign convict and will work closely with Bachchan. Amitabh says “Mira met me and has offered me the role, I’ve accepted.” Mira will only be the second female director that Bachchan has ever worked with in his illustrious career so far. Mira will also definitely have one small but strong female character in the film likely to play the role of an Indian journalist. Mira has already started pre production work on the film.

Amitabh Bachchan’s 'Nishabd’ draws protest in Jalandhar

Romancing with a girl of one's granddaughter's age may have fascinated Russian author Vladimir Nabokov's creative urge to pen down a famous novel, but in Jalandhar the soon to be released Amitabh Bachchan starrer movie made on the same lines has evoked a public outrage.

On Friday, people here staged a protest against the forthcoming Ram Gopal Verma’s next film titled Nishabd, where a sexagenarian Amitabh will be seen getting infatuated towards an 18-year-old girl, portrayed by debutante Zia Khan.

People participating in the protest, organized by the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP)'s Jalandhar unit alleged that the movie was against Indian culture.

The protesters shouted slogans against Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan for taking up such a role and also defaced many posters of the film.

"We are protesting against Amitabh Bachchan's film Nishabd. He has grand children and he is romancing with a young girl in the film that is beyond his dignity and against our social values. The message that the film will convey is contradictory to our society. Hence, we are protesting against the screening of the film and we will continue our protest till the film is banned," said Parminder Singh, general secretary Lok Jan Shakti Party, Punjab unit.

The self-proclaimed protectors of Indian ethos demanded a nation-wide ban on the screening of the film, failing which they issued a warning that their protest may aggravate.

Nishabd, considered to be based on Nabokov's 'Lolita,' is scheduled for a March 3 release and reportedly, exhibits a high voltage sensual drama between Amitabh and Zia Khan. (ANI)

STAR OF THE STARS.

Amitabh Bachhan is, in popular parlance, the king of Indian cinema, most certainly of the commerical Hindi film. The older of the two sons of Harivansh Rai, an acclaimed Hindi poet, and the socialite Teji Bachhan, Amitabh went to Sherwood College, a boarding school in the hill-station town of Nainital, and from there to Delhi University where he earned an arts degree. His first appearance was in the movie Saat Hindustani [Seven Indians], which did not do particularly well at the box office. Nonetheless, Amitabh was not deterred, and he can be said to have arrived in the Hindi film world with the films Zanjeer [Chains] and Deewar [Wall] . With his tall and lean looks, Amitabh became emblematic of the new kind of action hero. Whereas his predecessors such as Rajesh Khanna and Dharmendra played romantic roles, Amitabh introduced the motif of the 'angry young man' to Indian cinema. This is at a time, in the mid-1970s, when domestic politics was in a period of great turmoil, student unrest was high, and the employment prospects for educated young men were bleak at best. In Deewar, which furnishes the classic example of the double in the Hindi cinema, he played the role of a mafia don and smuggler opposite his policeman brother, played by Shashi Kapoor. The theme of 'alienation' is further explored in Shakti [Energy; Strength], where as the son of a strict police officer (Dilip Kumar), Amitabh takes to the life of high crime and smuggling.

Altogether, Amitabh Bachhan has appeared in over 70 films, many of them, particularly those from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, resounding successes. During the shooting of the movie Coolie, he injured himself fatally and had a near brush with death. He married Jaya Bhaduri, herself one of the most successful and accomplished actresses in the Hindi cinema, and it is perhaps telling that, quite in the Indian fashion, she ceased to act in Hindi films after their marriage. About ten years age he retired from the film world. He then tried his hand at politics. Due to his enormous popularity, not to mention the close association with Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and members of their family that he has enjoyed, he was elected to parliament with a huge majority from his home city of Allahabad. But his stint in politics did not last long and he was implicated in some scandals. He gave up his seat in parliament, vowing never to be involved in politics again.

AMITABH and POLITICS !!!!!!!!!!!!

World fame Indian cine artist, millennium star Amitabh Bachchan is well known in politics also along with his activities in films. After the murder of Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi in 1984, for giving a helping hand to her elder son Rajiv Gandhi, due to his family relations with Nehru-Gandhi family, he came to forefront in 1985, as a member of Congress (I), largest political party of India. Amitabh Bachchan contested the parliamentary election on congress party ticket in 1985 from Allahabad (56) parliamentary constituency situated in Uttar Pradesh, the biggest state of India. Regarding his taking part in politics, he had said it many a time that it was his wrong decision because he did not know politics. As a matter of chance I worked as a political associate of Amitabh Bachchan in 1985 elections in Allahabad. So I had to help him in political correspondence from time to time. After that, one of his letters in October 1987, Bachchan wrote to me and confirmed his faith that he would always be linked with congress and the works of national welfare and would always try for its progress.

Anyhow it is a matter of 1987, about two decades earlier. Since then, Indian politics has passed through many political upheavals, new political equation and rise and fall of many political parties. In 1985, when Amitabh stepped in politics through the congress party, he was star campaigner of congress and one of the most trustworthy companions of Nehru Gandhi family. But after his entrance in politics, he tasted so bitter an experience which perhaps any other film artist might not had. During that period, his political concerns kept him away from the film & besides that some zealous congress leaders laid a conspiracy to insult, to indignity & to dishonour him. In short, his two & half years of involvement in Indian politics, he was so fed up that he resigned from the membership of Lok Sabha in 1987 & he had to come back to his main occupation in film industry. During this period, Amitabh Bachchan bore a great economic loss & had a heavy burden.

At that time Amitabh was in hot waters. Not to say of helping struggling Amitabh, perhaps there was no one in the Congress Party who could understand his mental pain. But an active regional party in Uttar Pradesh in India named Samajwadi Party recognised this Zen & some skilled players in politics won his confidence. With the passage of time, the economic condition of Amitabh began to improve. This great hero got a highly dignified title in India Padam Shri by 1987, during the Congress regime. After leaving Congress party, this great hero reached the embellishing point to have the supreme & honourable ranks as Padam Bhushan & Millennium star. Whereas even his statue was configured in world famous museum of Madam Tussad in London. Flowers started to get name Amitabh in Singapore. On the other side, during this period of two decades, the distance between this great hero & the families of first Prime Minister Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru & Smt. Indira Gandhi went on increasing; some companions came into the life of Amitabh whom he introduces as his chum or brother. Undoubtedly these friends of Amitabh did some good to him but today those friends seem to be demanding price for that obligations.

In spite of many efforts of Amitabh to remain away from politics, reminding Amitabh of that good turns & obligations, Big B is being said to return those good turns. The people who had been near to him & knew his well, know it that he is not dishonest. He is not cunning like skilled politicians. He doesn't have crafty & deceitful habits. He is trustworthy & keeps this attribute in his mind. Regarding his love from public, I don't hesitate to say that when he was in active politics & was present on stage to address the election meetings, people wanted to hear him & none else.

Amazing Bachchan..

It may surprise his millions of fans but it is true that Amitabh Bachchan is just 21 even as the nation wishes him on his 61st birthday. Big B also believes that he is 21. And his belief is based on a simple calculation and a painful reality that hit him in 1982.

Flashback: since July 27, 1982, when Amitabh underwent an emergency operation in Bangalore after the by-now unforgettable accident during the shooting of ‘Coolie’, he had hovered on the edge of the final of a precipice with a team of specialists battling to keep him alive.

For the family, what happened was nothing short of familiar scenes from innumerable Bollywood films. On August 2, in breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, the mega star was declared clinically dead. Panic-stricken, Jaya stood outside the ICU watching the doctors trying to revive him... Apparently in vain.

Suddenly she screamed from outside: "Don’t give up. I just saw his toe moving. Please keep trying." the doctors started massaging his feet upwards. And he came back to life.

"Besides efforts by the doctors, prayers played a pivotal role to keep me alive. I was overwhelmed, people were praying for me on their own initiatives," recounts an emotional Bachchan.

After he was discharged from the hospital, Bachchan was asked to walk with the help of a stick. "They said that if I did walk again, it would be with the aid of a crutch. Jaya didn’t display even a trace of emotion. She projected a bold front and tried her best to encourage me.

"As for me, I wept like a child. I don’t remember ever having cried so much. What had happened to me ? What had happened to the man they called the action hero? Where had he gone?... These questions haunted me day and night. I could think of nothing but of hoping I will be able to stand on my own two feet," big B recalls adding that it took almost six months to face the camera lights and perform.

However, the doctors had told him to start work sometime in August 1983. He reported for work on January 7, 1983, and began from where he had left - the same sequence of ‘Coolie’ that he had to leave unfinished.

"The press and some people called it a publicity stunt. That hurt, for it was untrue. I did it because I wanted to prove to myself and convince myself that I could not be dismissed as useless. It was a personal triumph, something that restored my faith in myself," he adds.

Jaya sent him flowers with a card on August 2nd, saying "happy birthday, Amitabh Bachchan".

These revelations came to light during the interview of the Bachchan family in Simi Grewal’s programme rendezvous on star world last week. Instantly, Simi asked Amitabh: "It means you are just 21." the modest Bachchan replied, "you can say like that."

The star of the millennium said the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) looked like another world with no discrimination. Among the patients there was an actor, a cook and a businessman. "We were all one big family, fighting a common enemy — death. None of the patients ever discussed this.

"One day I came to know that a patient on the bed next to mine, who coincidently shared my date of birth and year, passed away in the ICU. Sometimes I feel that he infused his life into me. It is a rebirth for me."

By coming back from the jaws of death, Amitabh only confirmed what his fans always believed — that their hero was for real. He learnt to live again....Laughing, teasing, fighting and romancing. Earlier, it was through the roles that he portrayed on screen that he amazed everyone. But once he combated death..... He went onto become a living legend.

Post-1982, his role on life’s stage multiplied: A rejuvenated actor, Lok Sabha member from Allahabad to help his bosom buddy Rajiv Gandhi, showman, non-resident Indian and entertainment tycoon with the abcl (later renamed AB corp), TV anchor with ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, and brand ambassador for corporates galore.

With it all came the problems he could not solve as he did on screen. Meanwhile, the edifice of the legend began to show some cracks in the mid-1990s as his films like ‘Mrityudata’, ‘Major Saab’, ‘Kohraam’ and ‘Lal Badshah’ failed to hold audiences for long.

And the reason was that India’s greatest star ever had become the worst victim of his own image. Though the clamour of filmmakers to have his presence in their dream reels never waned, his saleability as a superstar came into question and the Charisma was up for examination.

After everyone had written him off, his mind-boggling bebut on the small screen as the anchor of KBC effected a turnaround in his fortune and gave a fresh lease of life to the man, who was facing professional and financial crises, and he rose like a Phoenix from each of them.

Even after the 34-year-long outstanding acting career — from his debut venture ‘Saat Hindustani’ to the latest offering ‘Baghbaan —the Bollywood Shahenshah feels he still has a long way to go to reach the heights of his profession.

Noting his phenomenal talent, critics observe that the lion in winter is better than all the pulp princes in their prime because the magic continues as the Babu Moshai grows.

first english movie- The Last Lear

Amitabh Bachchan is all set to do his first full length English film which is tentatively titled The Last Lear. The film will directed by Rituparno Ghosh and produced by Planman Motion pictures. Amitabh will be playing the role of King Lear and the film will be a tribute to veteran actor Utpal Dutt. The film will be based on a play Aajker Shahjahan by Utpal. The film will also star Preity Zinta,Arjun Rampal,Divya Dutta and Shefali Shah.Amitabh was very excited to work in the English film as it is based on Utpal's Bengali play.Amitabh has sentimental value attached to Utpal as he began his career with him in Saat Hindustani.Another reason for the attachment is that Amitabh's voice over was used for Utpal's debut film as an actor.Producer Arindam Choudhari says "Bachchan was the first choice for this role as we couldn't think of any other actor, but Mr.Bachchan for this role.A baritone and a towering personality make him the perfect choice."Amitabh has also always been very interested and appreciated the kind of experimental plays that were directed by Utpal Dutt.Hence the makers feel that Amitabh playing the role will be a fitting tribute to Utpal Dutt who was a good scholar as well as good actor.Amitabh is extremely excited with the engagement of Abhishek and Aishwarya, but claims that due to the hectic schedules of both Ash,Abhi and Jaya the date for the marriage has not yet been fixed.Amitabh's film Nishabd recently released but due to its unconventional subject, the film did not receive a good response.Amitabh has several releases this year,Ramgopal Varma's Sholay,Cheeni Kum etc.

Before coming to Filmz...

Amitabh Bachchan still strike the gold at the box office with the success of Baghban the senior superstar has made a statement against ageism in the industry. In 2003 he lined up more projects, more varied roles, more endorsements than any other younger actors. He lined up with Khakee, Aetbaar and Lakshya. As more successful he gets more self deprecating he is becomes. He likes to knock his acting, downplay his formidable connections. But his influence inside and outside the industry grows.

The aura for him gets bigger. At the age of 61 when youngsters do one movie at a time he zips from one set to another. He takes risks whether it is sporting over the Top Wigs, freaking out in Funky Videos or playing the Dour Patriarch and all too stylish. Amitabh Bachchan is in popular parlance, the king of Indian cinema was born on October 11, 1942 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India . Son of well known poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. He went to Sherwood College, a boarding school in the hill-station town of Nainital, and from there to Delhi University where he earned a double MA degree.

He was a former stage actor, radio announcer and freight company executive in Calcutta, India. When he was just trying to get a break in movies he was told to soften his 'deep' voice. However it was soon realised that his deep rich voice was excellent for narration. He has provided narrations for several films.Married to Jaya Bhaduri, a well known actress, he has two kids, Shweta and Abhishek. His first movie was Saat Hindustani (1969). He came to be known as 'The Angry Young Man' after his film Zanjeer (1973), which made him a superstar.

He also ran for seat in the Congress from his hometown but had to leave midterm because of controversies. While shooting for Coolie (1983) he received a near fatal injury. He was hospitalised and the Indian press issued daily bulletins on his health. He is highest paid Bollywood actor in the film industry. Amitabh had a very close association with the former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her son Rajiv Gandhi (also Prime Minister) and he was elected to parliament with a huge majority from his home town of Allahabad.

But in politics he did not last long and was implicated in the infamous Swedish Bofors Gun deal scandal along with Rajiv Gandhi and others. He launched a multi-faceted commercial enterprise known simply as Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited, or ABCL. ABCL is engaged in production, distribution and all other aspects of the movie industry. He was considered finished in the late nineties after super star status for 20 years a string of flops and failed political and business ambitions. He faced major health problems and financial crisis.

But his unexpected comeback as host of the popular TV quiz series 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire which put him right back on the number one spot of Bollywood actors over 40 reaffirming his reputation as the living legend of Indian cinema with a new series of high profile films Mohabbatein (2000), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) etc. He is announced as an actor of the Millennium in a BBC News Poll ahead of such luminaries as Charlie Chaplin, Sir Lawrence Olivier, and Marlon Brando. He is the first Asian actor having a wax model of his likeness displayed at Madame Tussaud's in London. One of his film Boom made lot of people unhappy. All are shocked what he had done, it was not the right decision to select that film people believed.

And he felt sorry for the people who were upset from his appearance in the film. But he said the character he played in it is repulsive. And he is doing that only which going to be not liked by people. In that regard he feel a sense of achievements. Mostly the other stars are keen to work with Amitabh, but he is one who desire to work with Tabu for many years but no one is taking it seriously. Let see when he gets the opportunity to work with her. Amitabh Bachchan's forthcoming film will be Bunty Walia's Just panjabi which is being directed by Apoorva Lakhia. Other co stars Sanjay Dutt and Lara Dutt. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black. And his AB Corp's vehicle which he is relaunching with Abhishek Ranveer.

Amitabh Bachchan is embarrassed. A television scribe has pinned the megastar down on a couch and is grilling him about his 19-year old Nishabd co-star, Jiah Khan’s public declaration of love. There is also a reference to Khan’s statement that Mr B smells very nice, so nice that she can smell him from a good distance.

“What can I say? I take it as a compliment coming from an innocent young girl. I mean, she’s half my daughter’s age,” he says all red-faced.

Come Friday Mr B’s going to romance her in the Ram Gopal Varma film. Then in May, he woos Tabu in the caustic romcom Cheeni Kam. All in all, it’s romance time for the angry young man turned Bollywood’s best known patriarch.

“Well, variety is the spice of life. I was getting a little tired of playing the patriarch in all my films. I realised that if I continue to do it then it would be the end of me as an actor. I’m fortunate that these films came my way,” says the 64-year-old actor. Since his comeback in 2000, save the occasional Baghban with Hema Malini, Bachchan has steered away from romance. It was just a matter of time before film-makers latched on to this untapped Bachchan pool.

now a days actors are looking forward to work in the films based on the broad concepts.

Golden period.

Twenty-five years after Indian Independence…Disillusionment had set in amongst the youth of the country. There was much corruption and unemployment and life was one big struggle. During this period in 1973, a film was released - Zanjeer. The film saw a new kind of hero, a hero who took the law in his own hands and fought the villain;a hero whom people saw as their savior. The actor playing the lead role, till then a struggler with a string of flops behind him, was Amitabh Bachchan.

The son of the noted Hindi poet, Harivanshrai Bachchan, he was born in Allahabad. He gave up his job as a freight broker for a shipping firm in Calcutta to move to Bombay in 1968. Months of struggle followed. Ironically known for his rich voice, he was rejected by All India Radio and even played a mute in one of his early films Reshma Aur Shera (1971). After some more flops where he even played villain to Navin Nischol's hero in Parwana (1971), Zanjeer happened.
In his early films like the
Hrishikesh Mukherjee Directed Anand (1970) and Namak Haram (1973) or in Saudagar he was presented as a brooding melancholic anti-hero drawn from Bengali Literary stereotypes traceable to novelist Sarat Chandra Chatterjee and brought into Hindi Cinema by Nitin Bose, Bimal Roy and Asit Sen. But Zanjeer changed all that.

In Deewaar (1975), which furnishes the classic example of the double in the Hindi cinema, he played the role of a mafia don opposite his policeman brother, played by Shashi Kapoor. It was a brilliant performance with Amitabh more than able to humanize the gangster and have people sympathize with him rather than with his law-abiding brother.

The theme of 'alienation' is further explored in Trishul (1978), Kaala Pattharand Shakti (1982) where as the son of a strict police officer (Dilip Kumar), Amitabh takes to the life of high crime and smuggling. Bachchan's persona in these films is often defined by two female females: the melodramatic mother, often played by Nirupa Roy, who symbolizes the family and the 'liberated' woman as personified by Zeenat Aman (Don (1978), The Great Gambler (1980)), Parveen Babi (Deewaar, Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Kaalia (1981)) or Rekha (Mr. Natwarlal (1979), Suhaag (1979), Silsila (1981)).

Though he played the angry young man to perfection, Amitabh scored in all types of roles be it the sensitive romances of Yash Chopra (Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Silsila (1981)) or the entertainers of Manmohan Desai. (Amar Akbar Anthony, Parvarish (1977), Suhaag (1979), Naseeb (1981) to name some) He excelled in all types of scenes be it action, drama, song and dance or comedy and consequently his films began to be a one man variety entertainment show. (Take the comic drunken scene in Amar Akbar Anthony or the drag act in the Mere Angane Mein song from Lawaaris (1981) - Pure 'items!')

In 1984, when at his peak as a star, he tried his hand at politics. Due to his enormous popularity, not to mention the close association he enjoyed with Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and members of the Nehru family, he was elected to parliament with a huge majority from his home city of Allahabad.

But his stint in politics did not last long and he was implicated in some scandals. He gave up his seat in parliament, vowing never to be involved in politics again.
On the personal front though he did win the National Award for his portrayal of an underworld kingpin in Agneepath (1990), it was more like Deewaar revisited. He took a break from Hindi Cinema after Khuda Gawah (1992).

Some years ago, Amitabh attempted a return to commercial Hindi cinema, but he has not had the impact that he had in previous years. However he continues to have an extraordinary public presence in India. The biggest feather in Amitabh's crowded cap was being chosen as the superstar of the Millennium over such greats as Charlie Chaplin and Laurence Olivier and being selected as the first film personality from India to be immortalized at Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum, London! And by he hosting the popular game show Kaun Banega Karodpati? he not only came back with a bang but endeared himself to the younger geneartion of today as well. On January 26, 2001 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian Cinema.
Today he continues to be perhaps the busiest actor in Bollywood with roles still specially being written for him. And even today in films like Baghban (2003) and Khakhee (2004), he shows how easily he can rise above any script and breathe life into each and every role he plays.

AB, See Hell". That's what the letters ABCL seem to spell now for Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited, in the face of the twin demons of financial bankruptcy and career ruin that threaten to confront the country's most legendary film star.

It's an apocryphal story in Bollywood, one of those gossipy anecdotes that become instant legends. The only thing that gives credence to this one is the fact that it's true.

A well-known scriptwriter was working on the script to a Bachchan film sometime in 1997. The story centred around a rich industrialist widower with a beautiful but spoilt daughter. The film was to be about the father's relationship with the daughter and the young penniless mechanic she falls in love with. The daughter gets kidnapped and the father and the mechanic are forced to put aside their differences as they try to save her from the clutches of the kidnappers. The film ends with the father heroically fighting the kidnappers, killing their leader, saving his daughter and receiving a fatal wound in the process. He dies in a traumatic climax reminiscent of the death scene in Sholay, after uniting his daughter and the mechanic and blessing their union.
As you have probably guessed, Bachchan was to play the father. In fact, the script was conceived and developed purely with him in mind.

On the Friday that Bachchan's long-awaited comeback film Mrityudaata was released, the writer was hard at work on the script. He was interrupted by a phone call from the producer, a veteran of the industry. The producer told the writer that Mrityudaata had had a bad opening and Bachchan's equity had dropped substantially. The producer told the writer to rewrite the script, reducing Bachchan's role. He would still be the father, but the film would focus more on the daughter (to be played by Karisma Kapoor) and the mechanic (to be played by a newcomer).
The next day, Saturday, the writer got another call from the producer. He sounded very harassed this time. He said that distributors were very alarmed at the response to Mrityudaata and felt a Bachchan film wouldn't be worth a premium anymore. The producer told the writer to make the film centre completely around the daughter and the mechanic (who would now be played by a saleable young star). Bachchan would still be the father, but the role would be a supporting one.

Finally, on Sunday, the writer received the third and last call. The producer said that Bachchan was a complete write off and that nobody would touch him with a barge pole again. Mrityudaata was a total flop. He told the writer to rewrite the film completely, cutting Bachchan out altogether. He even suggested that they cast veteran character actor Pran (in Hindi, pran means life) as the father instead of Bachchan. The writer chose to shelve the script rather than make this final change. The punchline was his quip to the producer: "Pran jaaye par Bachchan na jaaye!" (''Even life can cease but Bachchan can't''.)

Recently, Bachchan's newest release Sooryavansham brought back shocks of déjà vu to the same writer. Because, despite the debacle of Mrityudaata and the subsequent sinking of Bachchan's career graph, there was still a great deal of hope that the superstar would rise again phoenix-like from his own ashes.

Sooryavansham put the torch to the funeral pyre of that last hope. The writer, a blueblood Bachchan fan and well versed in the ways of the industry, destroyed the script, convinced that it could now never be produced.

This loss of faith wasn't just the result of Sooryavansham's box-office failure. After all, Sooryavansham was not an ABCL release, so the loss would hit the distributors much harder than the Big B himself. Also, two of his earlier releases, Bade Miya Chotte Miya and Lal Badshah, had performed reasonably well at the turnstiles. It was possible that there was some running still left in the old horse. And even in Sooryavansham, Bachchan's performance was superb, reminiscent of his heyday 15 years ago, which was high praise indeed.

But what brought the last tear to Bachchan sympathisers and fans was not his films at all, but the recent reports in the financial pages of the press. Reports that detailed the Bachchan family's financial crisis. News that the famed landmark in Bombay's suburb of Vile Parle, the original Bachchan residence Pratikshaa, had been attached by a court order and was to be sold to help recover debts owed by Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited.

And the further news that ABCL had applied to the Bureau for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction, proof that the Bachchans felt their financial morass was beyond resolution.
The Bachchan era, thought by some to have declined years ago, had finally, officially, come to an end.
